A Family Photographer in Fairfield, CT, for Every Occasion—Big or Small
Some of the most meaningful family photographs begin with a simple decision: let’s get a picture together.
I’m Dariusz Terepka, a family and portrait photographer based in Fairfield, Connecticut. I photograph families, couples, anniversaries, birthdays, and gatherings of all sizes, at my Fairfield home studio and on location.
Recently, an encounter at the Bigelow Senior Center reminded me why this work matters—and why we shouldn’t wait for the perfect occasion to step in front of the camera.
Sixty Years Together Deserves a Portrait
While I was photographing at the Bigelow Senior Center in Fairfield, a couple came in for their portrait. As we talked, I learned that their 60th wedding anniversary had already come and gone.
Sixty years of marriage. A lifetime of shared experiences, changes, and memories.
They told me that no one in their family—their children or grandchildren—had thought to arrange a photo session for the occasion.
It’s easy to understand how that happens. Families get busy. We plan meals, buy gifts, and make phone calls. A professional portrait might never cross our minds.
But listening to them, I thought about what a photograph could mean to their family: a record of the two people whose life together had helped shape everyone else’s.
I was glad they had come in. Their anniversary had passed, but they could still have a portrait celebrating who they are together today.
“I Look So Nice in That Picture!”
Have you ever looked at an older photograph of yourself and said those words?
Now think about how you felt when it was taken.
Perhaps you didn’t like your hair. You wanted to lose a few pounds. You felt awkward in front of the camera or insisted that I photograph everyone else first.
As a family photographer, I hear these concerns often.
Then years pass, and we look at those same images differently. We appreciate our expressions, remember that season of life, and notice the people standing beside us.
The details we worried about become much less important.
That’s why I like to remind people:
You are as perfect as you are today. Tomorrow, you’ll be a little different. Preserve the beauty of who you are right now.
You deserve to appear in your family’s photographs throughout your life.
Family Photography in Fairfield Isn’t Only for Big Milestones
You don’t need a wedding, a major anniversary, or a large party to book a photographer.
A small occasion can hold just as much meaning:
- Your parents are celebrating another year together.
- The grandchildren are visiting Fairfield for the weekend.
- Everyone is gathering for a birthday dinner at home.
- Your adult children are finally in the same place.
- You and your spouse haven’t had a portrait together in years.
- You simply want photographs with the people you love.
I want to be the photographer your family feels comfortable calling for all of it.
Whether I’m photographing a quiet anniversary portrait, a backyard birthday, or a gathering of several generations, I bring the same care and attention. Your event doesn’t have to be big to deserve beautiful photographs.
Feeling Uncomfortable in Front of the Camera? I’ll Help.
You don’t need to know how to pose, and you don’t need to arrive feeling completely confident.
Helping you feel comfortable is part of my work.
I’ll guide you through where to stand, how to turn, and what to do with your hands. I’ll also make room for conversation, laughter, and the small interactions that make your family yours.
For older family members, young children, or anyone who needs a slower pace, we can discuss those needs while planning the session.
Family portraits can take place at my Fairfield home studio, in your home, or at a local setting that suits your family. We’ll choose an approach that helps everyone feel at ease.
How Often Should You Have Family Photos Taken?
An annual family portrait session is a useful tradition, especially when children are growing quickly. But there’s no rule that says you must wait a year—or wait for a holiday.
Consider arranging photographs when family members visit, when something changes, or when you realize it has been too long since everyone was in the picture.
Keep taking everyday photographs, too. Use your phone. Ask someone else to take a turn so you’re included.
Professional family photography gives you the opportunity to bring everyone into the frame, with thoughtful lighting, guidance, and attention to the finished images.
Anniversary Portraits Can Be a Meaningful Gift
If you’re wondering what to give your parents or grandparents for an anniversary, consider arranging a portrait session.
You could plan photographs of the couple together, then include their children and grandchildren for a multigenerational family portrait.
Before booking, talk with them about what would feel comfortable and enjoyable. The session can be simple and relaxed. It doesn’t need to become a large production to create something meaningful.
That couple at the senior center reminded me how valuable it can be to make the suggetion: “Let’s have a photograph taken.”
